Weekend Lecture: Learning to Love JavaScript

Weekend Lecture: Learning to Love JavaScript

With Google I/O 2012 coming up soon, I thought it’d be a great idea to look back at some excellent talks from past events. This week, let’s watch Alex Russell explain how to learn to love JavaScript.

Watch the Video

Alex Russell is a Google engineer working on Chrome (desktop, Android, and Frame). In this talk, he discusses JavaScript’s strengths and explains why it is such a popular and important language.

If you’re a keen AS3 developer that can’t see why people are so into JS – after all, its syntax looks like AS1 sometimes – have a listen to what Alex has to say.

You think someone might have told him to remove the “open source f— yeah!” sticker from the front of his computer (watch it in HD ~30min mark to get a crystal clear view :)

      Haha!

An interesting and informative talk for sure, but I don’t think it convinced me to love Javascript. ‘Learning to Tolerate Javascript’ would have been a more suitable name!

I love javascript when using Jquery in it , is a start i guess :)

JavaScript nearly OK. However the lack of access modifiers and real classes bugs me the most, there is not much to chose from, either its public or private only to that instance (closures) there should be a class scope. Scripting in JavaScript drives one insane, making anything but simple web pages are like swimming in .

    • Jesus Bejarano

You should try motools js library , it’s can use classes

Well, JavaScript has been here for ages. I don’t need anyone to tell me to love it. I need anyone to tell me how can I shorten production time needed for custom scripts to be developed.

I guess the only answer is to totally master the java script. Difficult to find good advanced book however. Hopefully nettuts plus premium will make the Advanced JavaScript Course any time soon.

    Cheers
